French Onion Sausage Rolls
Savory French Onion Sausage Rolls with Flaky Pastry
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
500g sausage mince
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup French onion soup mix
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Sesame seeds (optional, for sprinkling)
Directions:
Preheat Oven and Prepare Filling:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook, stirring, for 5-7 minutes until soft and golden. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Make Sausage Filling:
In a large bowl, combine the sausage mince, breadcrumbs, French onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooked onion and garlic. Mix until well combined.
Assemble Rolls:
Cut each puff pastry sheet in half to create 4 rectangles. Divide the sausage mixture evenly among the pastry rectangles, shaping it into a log along one long edge of each rectangle. Roll the pastry over the sausage mixture, sealing the edges with a little water. Place the rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking tray.
Egg Wash and Bake:
Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 3 or 4 pieces. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy.
Serve:
Allow the sausage rolls to cool slightly before serving. They are delicious hot or at room temperature.
