These Buttered Steak Bites with Mushrooms are a delightful combination of tender steak pieces and earthy mushrooms, cooked to perfection in rich, savory butter. Quick and easy to make, this dish is perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
1 ½ pounds skirt steak
– 1 teaspoon kosher salt
– ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
– 4 tablespoons butter (divided)
– 6 ounces small crimini or button mushrooms (sliced in half)
Directions
1. Cut the skirt steak into bite-sized pieces, approximately 1/2″ to 3/4″ in size. Generously sprinkle the meat with 3/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper.
2. Heat a heavy flat-bottomed stainless skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter has melted, swirl it to coat the pan. Add about a third of the meat, spreading it across the pan.
3. Cook the meat for 1 minute, then use a large spatula to flip the pieces over. Cook for an additional minute. Use a spatula to transfer the cooked meat to a plate, and repeat with the remaining meat in batches.
4. Add an additional tablespoon of butter to the skillet. The entire cooking process for the meat should only take a few minutes. Once the meat is cooked, loosely tent foil over the plate to keep the steak bites warm.
5. In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and toss in the sliced mushrooms. Sprinkle with the remaining salt and let the mushrooms cook without stirring for 2-3 minutes, until they are browned. Stir and continue to cook until the mushrooms are soft.
6. Add the cooked mushrooms and the buttery pan drippings to the plate with the steak bites. Serve hot and enjoy!
