Ingredients:

  • 60 ml / 2 US fl oz Rye or Bourbon Whisky
  • 30 ml / 1 US fl oz Amaro (Averna recommended)
  • 2 dashes Aromatic Bitters (Angostura)
  • 1 dash Orange Bitters
  • 1 Maraschino Cherry (Luxardo or Fabbri)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Glass: Place your coupe or rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill.
  2. Combine Liquids: Add solid, high-quality ice cubes into the mixing glass.
  3. Measure and Pour: Pour the whisky (60 ml / 2 oz) and the Amaro (30 ml / 1 oz) directly over the ice.
  4. Add Bitters: Dash in the Angostura bitters (2 dashes) and the Orange bitters (1 dash).
  5. Stir to Perfection: Using a bar spoon, gently stir the cocktail mixture for approximately 25–40 seconds until the outside of the mixing glass is frosty. This provides necessary dilution and chilling.
  6. Strain and Serve: Discard the chilling water from the serving glass. Place the strainer over the mixing glass and strain the Black Manhattan cocktail cleanly into the chilled glass.
  7. Garnish: Drop one high-quality Maraschino cherry into the glass, or skewer it and rest it on the rim.
