Ingredients:

  • 4.5 oz jarred dried beef, sliced into ribbons
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 cups whole milk, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 slices sourdough bread, toasted
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Take the 4.5 oz jarred dried beef and slice it into thin, 1/4 inch ribbons.
  2. Place 4 tbsp unsalted butter in your skillet over medium heat until it sizzles and stops foaming.
  3. Sprinkle 1/4 cup all purpose flour over the melted butter. Whisk constantly for 2 minutes until it smells slightly nutty but remains pale.
  4. Slowly pour in 2.5 cups whole milk (room temperature) while whisking vigorously.
  5. Continue whisking over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and begins to bubble gently.
  6. Fold in the beef ribbons.
  7. Stir in 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper, 1 pinch ground nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce.
  8. While the gravy simmers on low, toast 6 slices sourdough bread until golden brown and firm.
  9. Spoon the warm creamed beef generously over the toast.
  10. Sprinkle 1 tbsp fresh parsley over the top until the green pops against the white sauce.
