Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tbsp strong black tea (Assam or Thai Tea Mix)
  • 2 whole star anise pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick (approx. 3 inches)
  • 3 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  • 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk

Instructions:

  1. Place the water, star anise, cinnamon stick, and crushed cardamom pods in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to allow the spices to release their essential oils.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the black tea and turmeric. Let the mixture steep for 5 minutes. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a pitcher, discarding the solids.
  3. While the tea is still hot, whisk in the sweetened condensed milk until fully dissolved and smooth.
  4. Fill two tall glasses to the brim with ice. Pour the sweetened tea over the ice, filling the glass about 3/4 of the way.
  5. Slowly pour the evaporated milk over the top to create a marbled effect.
