Ingredients:
- 2 medium apples, diced (approx. 12 oz / 340g)
- 1 tbsp (14g) unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp (12g) light brown sugar
- ½ tsp (1g) ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch (0.5g) salt
- ½ cup (60g) regular Cream of Wheat
- 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
- 1 tbsp (14g) unsalted butter
- ¼ tsp (1.5g) salt
- 1 tbsp (15ml) maple syrup
Instructions:
- Melt 1 tbsp of butter in the saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5–7 minutes until the apples are tender and coated in a mahogany-colored syrup. Remove apples from the pan and set aside.
- In the same saucepan, keeping the leftover apple glaze for flavor, combine the milk, salt, and 1 tbsp of butter. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Slowly whisk in the Cream of Wheat in a steady stream to prevent clumping. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, for 5–8 minutes until the mixture reaches a velvety, thick consistency.
- Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the maple syrup. Spoon the cream of wheat into two bowls and top each with a generous portion of the warm, caramelized apples.
