Easy Homemade Sausage Rolls
Ingredients:
– 1 pound ground sausage
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1 teaspoon dried sage
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed
– 1 egg, beaten
– Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
3. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
4. Stir in the dried thyme, dried sage, salt, and black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into 3 rectangles.
6. Spoon the sausage mixture along one long edge of each pastry rectangle. Roll up the pastry to enclose the filling, sealing the edges with a little beaten egg.
7. Place the sausage rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
9. Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving.
