Dakota Johnson had to ‘superglue thong’ to her body while filming 50 Shades of Grey sex scenes

If anyone is still thinking about 50 Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson once said that she had to glue a thong onto herself while filming one of the movies.

What started as Twilight fan fiction and morphed into one of the best selling book series of all time also ended up becoming a trilogy of films starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.

Financially, the 50 Shades world has been a staggering success, less so critically but everyone involved can dry any tears they have with the massive piles of money they’ve made off being part of it.

Filming such an erotic series of books is a challenge in and of itself, as there’s lots of sex to be translated from the page to the screen and the actors have got to be properly safeguarded throughout the entire process.

Dornan said that ‘you do know what you are getting into’ when you sign up to do those movies and he spent a lot of time pondering whether or not to take the job on the 50 Shades movies.

Both lead actors had to take steps to preserve their modesty while filming those scenes.

Speaking to Marie Claire, Johnson explained how she was sticking her clothes onto her for filming during the movie.

Johnson said: “I had these sort-of strapless thongs that had glue on them. It’s not glue, but it’s sticky. They’re, like, basically if it were a nipple pastie, but underwear.

“But it’s only sticky at the top, it’s not sticky the whole way.

“It would also come off because the adhesive would wear out, so then they would superglue it to my body so that it wouldn’t fall off.”

Honestly, the lengths these actors had to go to make the film work.

Speaking of lengths, Dornan had to make sure his was kept safely within a ‘wee bag’, as he told GQ that: “Your dignity is intact as much as it’s all tucked away in a little flesh-coloured bag.

“As a guy you put all your essentials in a little bag and you tie it up like a little bag of grapes and it’s tucked away. It’s quite a peculiar thing to do every day.”

One can only imagine, though perhaps one ought not to.

Dornan later stressed that the ‘wee bag’ was just an expression and that just because he called it that ‘doesn’t mean it’s actually wee in size’, saying that in his case it was ‘quite a big bag’.

Jamie Dornan’s life changed forever when his portrayal of Christian Grey was shown to the world in 2015.

After interviewing Christian Grey, a wealthy businessman, the pair’s relationship shocked audience members, but in a good way.

As they become romantically involved, Ana discovered Christian’s interest in BDSM, which leads to a complex and emotional relationship.

The film became a box-office hit, grossing over a billion dollars and two sequels in the trilogy.

Off-screen, however, the duo weren’t exactly used to being in the public eye, and it showed during an interview with Today.

The pair gave each other an ‘awkward’ look when host Natalie Morales asked about what the sex scenes were like.

A quick-witted Johnson claimed that Dornan used a fluffer in between takes.

“What’s a fluffer?” Morales asked, as the female-lead had to clarify that it was merely a joke.

An embarrassed Dornan replied: “It’s a worthy job, but we haven’t required one yet,” while Johnson apologised for her comment.

For those unaware, including myself before writing this, a fluffer is someone who is employed in adult films to keep male performers aroused while filming.

So yeah, just so everyone’s sure, a fluffer was not used in Fifty Shades.

Meanwhile, the actor from Northern Ireland was well aware what he was getting himself into after agreeing to take on the role.

“There has to be an acceptance with acting, taking jobs, that you don’t ultimately have control over some things,” Dornan told GQ in 2021.

“But you do know what you are getting into and I did spend a lot of time weighing up whether to take the Fifty Shades role.

“Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised; sometimes you can be bitterly disappointed.

“Take that project [and] you know that loads of people are going to hate it – hate it – before they have even seen it.

“Why? Because, guess what? The majority of people hated the books.

“And I’m not saying I don’t recognise why those books were so powerful for millions of people, but you aren’t going to have books that were horrifically critiqued turned into movies that will be critically acclaimed. You are dealing with the same material.

“That’s the raw material we had.”

Anna Kendrick has a naked rule when filming sex scenes in her movies

Actor Anna Kendrick opened up on her ‘personal feelings on nudity’ while shooting intimate scenes

Britt Jones

Anna Kendrick has one strict rule when it comes to filming and if you go back to any of her movie involving romance, you’ll probably notice it right away.

There are so many actors who choose to get in the nude when shooting scenes, whether it’s to make the moment more realistic like Margot Robbie or to make ‘a love story’ convincing like Jake Gyllenhaal.

However, Kendrick, who turned 39 today (9 August), has a totally valid reason for why she’s happy to shoot sex scenes, just not one particular aspect of it.

The actor previously spoke to The Sydney Morning Herald about her 2020 show Love Life which saw her playing Darby, a woman who is going through the journey of finding love.

The HBO show focuses on her first love through to her last, and features some raunchy intimate scenes.

The Pitch Perfect star went on to share that although she’s down for the sex scene, she doesn’t like nudity.

She said: “My personal feelings on nudity – that I’m not really interested in nudity for me – stayed the same.

“I’ve never had a problem with simulated sex scenes – that feels like it’s about the character, whereas I only get one body, so nudity is more about me.”

In Love Life, which wrapped up after two seasons, Kendrick’s character goes on her fair share of dates and of course, some of those lead to after-dark activities between the sheets.

This realisation of the plot meant that Kendrick knew that sex was inevitable.

She explained: “When we started filming, it dawned on me that in every single episode I was going to be doing a kissing scene or a sex scene with someone brand new.

“It was definitely weird to know that we were going to meet and within a week we were going to be in bed pretending to have sex!”

Even though sex scenes might be a staple in most shows and films, that doesn’t mean that it’s comfortable for everyone involved.

Recently, there has been a rise in intimacy coordinators in the industry, who essentially ensure the actors understand the scene, what’s involved and are comfortable with every aspect. If not, they are well within their rights to refuse.

However, unlike Kendrick, not everyone has been able to exercise their voice or felt as though they could say no to nudity.

When appearing on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast in 2019, Emilia Clarke got candid about nudity while on the set of Game of Thrones.

The Daenerys Targaryen actor said she felt as though she didn’t deserve to feel uncomfortable and recalled telling herself: “Whatever I’m feeling is wrong; I’m gonna go cry in the bathroom, and then I’m gonna come back and we’re gonna do the scene – it’s gonna be completely fine. But it was definitely hard.”

Thankfully, she had co-star Jason Momoa on hand to at least make sure she had a robe to cover herself in between takes.

“He took care of me, too, in an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of,” she added.

Nicole Kidman has ‘real bruises all over body’ from intense scenes after shooting movie she had ‘too many orgasms’ filming

Nicole Kidman opened up about how ‘taxing’ shooting the film was on her body

Nicole Kidman has revealed she walked away with a few war wounds after filming intense scenes for her upcoming erotic thriller.

The Australian actor, 57, said she was covered in bruises ‘all over’ her body after shooting some intimate moments with her co-star Harris Dickinson, 28.

The pair bagged the leading roles in Halina Reijn’s new flick, Babygirl, which explores the nature of power dynamics and sexuality within a professional setting.

Kidman stars as workaholic CEO Romy, who ends up having a fling with her much younger intern Samuel (Dickinson) while her husband (Antonio Banderas) has no idea.

When the film finally arrives in UK cinemas on 10 January, make sure you pay attention to just how much effort Kidman put into the raunchy scenes which litter the film.

The Moulin Rouge star previously opened up about how she had to pause production at one point as she was having ‘too many orgasms’.

And now, she’s revealed some more details about the exhaustion she felt on set while repeatedly feigning pleasure.

Kidman sat down with Spider-Man star Zendaya, 28, for Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ feature to discuss how the sex scenes in Babygirl and the hit HBO series Big Little Lies impacted her.

She explained it was ‘really taxing going through all of those emotions’, as her body didn’t recognise that she was acting.

“So you’re putting yourself through the trauma,” Kidman said.

“On Babygirl, there were parts that are now not in the film that we shot that gave me – it was exhausting, but it was also just emotionally disturbing.

“The same when I was doing Big Little Lies. That was disturbing to my body and my psyche, because I couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t.

“I would have real bruises all over my back and body.”

Zendaya then admitted that similarly, she ‘still has her Rue scars’ from shooting some harrowing scenes for season two of Euphoria.

The pair then went on to discuss how they try to leave the emotional baggage of their characters on set, rather than taking it home with them.

Kidman continued: “My brain would say, ‘Hold on. You’re hurt’.”

“So I’ve done things where they clean my chakras and pray and get out the sage,” the A Family Affair actor said.

“Honestly, I’ll take whatever so I can step into the next place free, and not scarred or damaged or wounded. Which sounds like I’m bats**t crazy, but I’m not.

“Even just a massage, where suddenly you get a beautiful touch. That’s healing, and we have to heal.

“I’m still learning not to sacrifice my body for the sake of the art, because part of me wants to. Having to value who I am, it’s a journey.”

But make no bones about it, Kidman is still buzzing that she is taking centre stage in Babygirl.

She added: “As soon as I heard it was called Babygirl, I’m like, ‘Yeah. I want to be the babygirl’.

“And so much of it is the chemistry. [Director Halina Reijn] was like, ‘What about Harris Dickinson?'”

Pitch Perfect actor reveals he lost a body part while performing sex act in the bath

That’s the last thing you’d want to happen

There are plenty of risks involved with sex, but usually people come through pretty unscathed when it comes to keeping their body parts intact.

It’s only recently that men have once again been warned about the risks of ‘death grip syndrome‘ which can cause serious problems in the bedroom.

A relationship expert also recently clarified some of the most common sex-related injuries which include pulled muscles (understandable) and foreign objects getting stuck (less understandable) but alas, losing a body part didn’t quite make her list.

However, that was the situation that a well-known Pitch Perfect actor had to cope with when he was young as he got more than he bargained for when having a tug.

Adam DeVine, who starred as Bumper in the musical comedy, was exploring his body in the bath when he was 11 and was shocked after a particularly successful session to find that it wasn’t just his semen that was floating in the bath alongside him.

The youngster had suffered a horrible accident not long before which saw him break all the bones in his leg after being hit by a truck.

With sports out of the question during his recovery, it’s no surprise that he learned to play with his todger but he had perhaps forgotten about a warning from doctors that one of his little toes would either stabilise, or literally fall off, as his body recovered from the incident.

He didn’t even realise at first that it had fallen off, but some post-nut clarity perhaps alerted him to the fact he was now boasting just nine toes, and he was left in the difficult situation where he needed his mum’s help quickly, but naturally didn’t want her to figure out what he had been doing just moments before.

Speaking on the In Depth with Graham Bensinger podcast, Devine said: “So I’m in the bathtub, and I couldn’t stand because of my accident, and I’d just found masturbation, and oh, did I love it, Graham.

“And so I’m cranking down, and it was the first time something had come out, and I’m like, ‘What is this?’

“And I’m like, ‘Ah! This is fantastic!’ But it was floating in the water and I’m like, ‘Oh, this is gross’.”

The Modern Family actor initially thought he’d ‘jerked off so hard my toe had fallen off’.
