A lip reader has revealed what ‘Ethan Slater said to Ariana Grande’ during a rare public appearance together at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The annual SAG Awards took place on Sunday (February 23), and like any good award show, it was full mayhem and dramas.

Jane Fonda savagely ‘called out Donald Trump’ during her Life Achievement Award speech, while Slater and Grande made a rare public appearance.

Nicola Hickling, from Lip Reader, told the Daily Mail that Slater became concerned for the Wicked star after the crowd began to ‘push’ them while they were in the audience for the SAG Awards.

Slater then apparently told Grande to stay a close distance to him during the rather tense moment played out in the public eye.

A viral clip then showed the pair walking through the crowd, with Slater seen whispering to the singer before leading her through a crowd of people.

“Stay near, this crowd next to me, they are pushing me,” the lip reader states Slater said to Grande.

UNILAD has reached out to Grande and Salter’s representatives for comment.

The celebrity couple were in attendance at the SAG awards as Grande was up for two awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

And fresh off the back of her starring role in Wicked, Grande’s stock in film is at an all-time high.

News of Grande and Slater’s relationship broke just days after the news of the singer’s divorce from her husband Dalton Gomez, sparking speculation that there may have been some overlap between Grande’s partners.

Slater himself filed for divorce in the same month that his relationship with Grande came to light.

The rumors surrounding their romance prompted one of her close family friends to tell PEOPLE: “People have tried to question the timeline.”

The friend claimed that ‘Ariana and Ethan didn’t begin seeing each other until after both parties were separated, respectfully’.

Grande went on to say her personal life is exactly that, personal.

She made the point in her song, titled ‘Yes, And?’, which was released early last year.

In the track, Grande sings: “Your business is yours, and mine is mine. Why do you care so much whose d**k I ride?”

Elsewhere in the track, Grande says she’s ‘so done with caring’ what people think, adding: “I won’t hide / Underneath your own projections / Or change my most authentic life.”

A new interview with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo is doing the rounds online for all the wrong reasons.

Erivo and Grande have been all over the news of late ahead of the release of Wicked, which hits theaters today (November 22).

‘One Last Time’ hitmaker Grande stars as Glinda in the film, while Erivo plays Elphaba.

The pair have done dozens of interviews, and in one conversation Grande became emotional while talking about her recent name change.

We all know and love the singer as Ariana Grande, but the credits for Wicked read Ariana Grande-Butera as she’s added her father’s surname to hers.

When asked about how her father reacted to the news, Grande said he cried.

“And, you know, that was my name when I first saw Wicked and I do feel, not to sound like a broken record, but I do feel like this role and this project helped me sort of come home to little Ari,” she continued, while tearing up herself.

“Maybe little pieces of her got lost along the way.”

For anyone who has watched any of Grande and Erivo’s joint interviews, or seen them in photographs on the red carpet, you’ll know that the two stars are seemingly very close and are often spotted holding hands.

This is something people have noticed in their chat with Out.

Elsewhere the unusual line of questioning and Erivo’s response to one of them has left people baffled.

The interviewer said to the Harriet actress: “I’ve seen this week that people are taking the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity’ and really holding space with that and feeling power in that.

“Would you touch on that moment in the film Elphaba has been banished and yet she comes into her full power at that moment of the worst time?”

Responding as if she didn’t know quite what to say, Erivo replied: “I didn’t know that that was happening… that’s really powerful. That’s what I wanted.”

Looking longingly at Grande who squeezes her co-star’s hand, Erivo went on: “I think it’s really important in that moment to not allow the things that have hurt her, that have stripped her of her humanity, to keep her down.”

The whole thing has left people with more questions than they probably started with.

“A couple posts of people holding space for the lyrics and feeling power in that? What does that even mean,” one person pondered on Twitter.

“Wtf does holding space mean,” echoed a different social media user.

“I don’t think Ariana and Cynthia understand what she is saying either honestly,” suggested a third.

Someone else questioned: “Wtf is the context what’s happening.”

Elsewhere someone called the clip the ‘funniest thing [they’ve] seen for a while’.

Ariana Grande has hit back at those who criticized her over a voice change for her role as Glinda in Wicked.

Earlier this year, the singer appeared on the podcast Podcrushed with hosts Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari, where she discussed many parts of her life and career.

There was an instance during the discussion where Grande’s voice changed rather abruptly, with the celebrity starting the interview with a lower voice.

This soon changed, however, with Grande switching her voice up to a far higher register – something which fans are familiar with.

People were left baffled by the interview, leading to Grande having to later explain why her voice changed mid-interview.

“I intentionally change my vocal placement (high / low) often depending on how much singing i’m doing. I’ve always done this BYE,” she explained on TikTok.

Grande opened up on the viral podcast in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, which also saw the 31-year-old set the record straight about cosmetic surgery.

The actor discussed how she coped with the backlash of the voice change, and even called out double standards within the industry.

She said: “There is a part of the world that isn’t familiar with what it takes to transform your voice, whether it’s singing or taking on a different dialect for a role or doing a character voice for something.”

She continued: “When it’s a male actor that does it, it’s acclaimed. There are definitely jokes that are made as well, but it’s always after being led with praise: ‘Oh, wow, he was so lost in the role.’ And that’s just a part of the job, really.

“Tale as old as time being a woman in this industry. You are treated differently, and you are under a microscope in a way that some people aren’t.”

Grande then reflected on the role as a whole, and there’s no doubt she’s proud to have worked on Wicked.

The singer continued: “It’s something that I’m just really proud of. Part of why I did want to engage [on TikTok] is because I am really proud of my hard work and of the fact that I did give 100 per cent of myself, including my physicality, to this role. I am proud of that, so I wanted to protect it.”

Mistress of the Dark Elvira called Ariana Grande out over an awkward encounter and the singer has since responded.

On October 18, Elvira – real named Cassandra Gay Peterson – took part in a Q&A session at Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park, California and spoke out about an alleged encounter she had with Wicked star Ariana Grande.

And Grande has since opened up about the incident and apologized to the ‘Queen of Halloween‘.

Alongside being asked many questions about her career as an actor, Elvira was also asked about experiences with other celebrities – including Grande.

The pair reportedly met at one of Elvira’s meet-and-greet sessions, Elvira saying Grande bought a whopping 21 tickets and came backstage and allegedly ‘asked if [Elvira] could take pictures with all of her friends and relatives’.

Elvira claimed she took photographs with and signed autographs for every single guest Grande brought backstage, however, when she turned around to the singer and asked for a photograph with her, Grande allegedly said: “No, I don’t really do that.”

And not only that, but the Mistress of the Dark claimed Grande actually ‘left before [the] show started,’ leaving her guests behind.

Grande has received backlash online over the story and she’s been branded online as Elvira’s ‘Worst Celebrity Encounter’.

Elvira even took to her Instagram page yesterday (October 21) to share an article about the incident, with Grande taking to the comments to respond to the controversy.

Taking to the post, Grande noted she was ‘so disheartened to see’ the article and Elvira’s comments.

She continued: “I actually don’t even remember getting the chance to meet you because i had an anxiety attack and to my memory, left before the rest of my family (this was around seven years ago and at the time i was really not great with being in public crowds or loud places)…

“But if i’m misremembering this moment, i sincerely apologize for offending you so.”

The singer thanked Elvira for ‘being so nice’ to her mom, noting her mom told her ‘how lovely’ Elvira was.

“She might have different feelings about that now but i’ll talk to her… clearly, we all have our days!” Grande added.

She resolved: “Sending love always. You’ll always be our queen of halloween!”

And fans have been quick to praise the singer for her handling of the issue.

One Instagram user wrote: “This is why we love you ! always responding with love and explaining yourself even when you shouldn’t have to. you’re so strong for enduring all that you unfortunately have to endure and your strength is so admirable. love you so much more than i can express.”
