Netflix viewers spot heartbreaking detail in Gabby Petito documentary that’s left them ‘broken’

The murder of Gabby Petito has been brought into the spotlight with a new Netflix documentary which has allowed viewers to hear from the family of the young murdered woman.

While some people may already be aware of Gabby Petito’s story through news reports, a new Netflix documentary, American Murder: Gabby Petito, has shone light on lesser-known details.

The three-part documentary shows how the aspiring YouTuber and her fiancé Brian Laundrie went on a cross-country trip across the US back in 2021 before Petito was murdered.

Gabby caused a stir when she went missing a few weeks into their travels, and as police began to investigate her disappearance, Laundrie became a suspect.

He was later found deceased Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021 and had a note that confessed to the murder of his soon-to be wife.

Petito’s autopsy would reveal that the 22-year-old vlogger died by ‘blunt force injuries’ to her head and neck and ‘manual strangulation’.

As well as combing through these details, the documentary also highlighted the emotional anguish and grief her friends and family went through as more information about the ordeal came to light.

In a TikTok video, one viewer has noted a key detail that was later confirmed by Gabby’s mother, Nichole Schmidt.

They noticed that all of Gabby’s parents, her father Joe Petito, Nichole Schmidt, step-mother Tara Petito, and step-father Jim Schmidt all had matching tattoos that were designed by Gabby.

The tattoos shown in the TikTok show a flower inside a triangle, and the family have previously revealed that they all have the words ‘let it be’ tattooed, as Gabby had this as well.

This tribute struck a chord with viewers, as Nichole commented on the TikTok saying ‘yes we all have it’.

Viewers then began offering their condolences for the family’s loss, as well as kind words.

One person commented: “Awww, when they all got together to spread her ashes. That broke me.”

The family have said they are trying to move forward now

Gabby Petito’s parents have spoken out about the anguish they still feel regarding the murder of their daughter as a Netflix documentary has detailed the young woman’s tragic end.

Back in 2021, Gabby and her fiancé Brian Laundrie left for the cross-country trip of a lifetime – however it would eventually end in her murder.

Gabby would go missing just weeks into their tri,p and authorities would later learn that Brian was responsible.

Police say Gabby was strangled to death on August 27 during the trip by Brian, and after this, he drove back to his parents’ home in Florida.

When police began investigating her disappearance, Brian vanished, only for him to be found a month later, after killing himself, with a notebook nearby that confessed to the crime.

Speaking to Newsnation, Nichole, Gabby’s mother, has reflected on the incident and gave candid answers about her mental well-being.

She said: “I have forgiven Brian, and I know that is what Gabby would have wanted, and I’m moving forward so I can move on.

“That is my personal experience. I don’t think everyone has to forgive. They can when they are ready if they are ever ready. But for me personally, I needed to forgive to let that anchor go.”

However, she also went on to say that she still has issues with Brian’s parents and now prefers to never say their names.

She also continues to question why both his parents remained quiet when they were told Gabby was ‘gone’.

Both Christopher and Roberta Laundrie have vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

Highlighting her frustration with the pair, Nichole also said: “I don’t think we will ever know why. The two people who will only know why and how are the two people who were there.

“I think we have the answers we needed. We know that things were known. I don’t want to go too deep. I don’t like to about them or say their names.”

Gabby’s father Joe also said that he is yet to have an apology from either of Brian’s parents.

Gabby’s stepmother and Joe’s wife, Tara Petito, added: “We are never going to get that.

“At this point, I don’t want one. It doesn’t help us. I would love for them to be charged with something. I really, really would love that. Do I think that is happening now? Unfortunately no. So I really want to erase that name out of my memory.”

Gabby’s mother has warned viewers to remember that this is a true story involving real people and real lives and to treat the subject matter with respect.

The documentary, American Murder: Gabby Petito is available to stream now on Netflix.

A call between Gabby Petito and her ex-boyfriend which took place before her death has revealed in the recent Netflix documentary about her murder.

Gabby Petito’s story has been brought back into the spotlight thanks to the three-part Netflix documentary, American Murder: Gabby Petito, dropping on the streaming site.

The aspiring YouTuber and her fiancé Brian Laundrie were on a dream cross-country trip across the US back in 2021, but this journey wouldn’t have a happy ending as Gabby would eventually go missing a few months into the trip after her parents stopped receiving text messages from her.

When authorities began their investigation into her disappearance, Brian would also go on to vanish after he’d returned home to his parents in Florida.

Her remains were eventually located on September 19 in Spread Creek camping area in Wyoming, where an autopsy would reveal that she’d died by ‘blunt-force injuries’ to her head and neck and ‘manual strangulation’.

Police would later find Brian’s body a month in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October 2021, where medical examiners concluded he’d taken his own life via a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Alongside his body, a notebook was also discovered where he ‘confessed’ to the murder of Gabby.

In the documentary, it was revealed that Gabby had reached out to her ex-boyfriend, Jackson, during the trip.

On August 22, she texted him: “Hi, I’m sure I’m the last person on the planet you want to hear from. I would really love to talk to you. I’m only alone until tomorrow.”

They later had a phone call, which he described as a ‘cry for help’, as he added: “I think she wanted to get away but just didn’t know how to do it. I think she wasn’t sure what he would do, or what he could do.”

He continued (via The Mirror US): “I got the vibe that she may still need somebody to talk to after we hung up, so I was like, ‘Hey, if you do need to talk again, let me know, it’s okay, I’m okay with that’.”

Jackson also said that Gabby hinted at an argument she’d had with Brian and was determined to leave her partner.

“She kind of hinted the fact that they had got into an argument a little bit, she said, ‘I have a plan, I think I want to leave him. I’m gonna do it, I have to figure out when I’m going to do it’.” he said.

“From the sound of her voice and the way she was saying it, I think that she wasn’t sure of what he would do or what he could do. I think she was wanting to get away but just didn’t know how to do it.”

On August 27, Jackson said he got another call from Gabby – as well as a Snapchat saying that she was in Wyoming – but was unable to pick up due to his work commitments.

“I think back on the fact that maybe if I did answer that phone call, I could have helped or there could have been a different outcome.” he said (via The Independent).

Netflix viewers left ’emotionally affected’ by modern horror with 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating that’s labeled ‘one of the best’

The movie racked up 20 award nominations and heaps of praise

Netflix fans are hailing a movie that ‘genuinely’ affected their emotions as one of the ‘best modern horrors’ in recent years.

The streamer’s huge catalogue of film and TV shows can get a little overwhelming, but usually, you can count on reviews to point you in the direction of a decent watch – take this ’10/10′ crime thriller with a perfect rating as an example.

Well, this movie has been awarded a flawless, 100 per cent score from Rotten Tomatoes critics, with one reckoning it ‘nails’ the genre that’s famously pretty hard to get right.

And viewers agree, saying the film offers an ‘incredible take’ on a traditional horror trope: the haunted house.

The British film, first released in 2020, also has 20 award nominations to its name, and scooped five – including a BAFTA for outstanding directorial debut.

Not bad for writer-director Remi Weekes’ first ever feature film, which was His House.

The movie’s cast is lead by Slow Horses’ Sope Dirisu and Alice, Darling’s Wunmi Mosaku as husband and wife Bol and Rial, who are seeking refuge from South Sudan.

Desperately fleeing a civil war that ripped apart their family, they make the treacherous journey across the English Channel which devastatingly claims the life of their young daughter Nyagak (played by Malaika Abigaba.)

The couple move into a dilapidated house in the suburbs of London, but are met with racism, prejudice and an ignorant social worker, played by Doctor Who’s Matt Smith.

They soon discover that lurking behind their new home’s peeling wallpaper is an evil spirit, hellbent on reminding them their past isn’t behind them just yet.

One person wrote: “His House… One of the best Modern Horrors?

“Talk about a slow-burn, 20 minutes into this thing I thought I was watching some sort of social-justice documentary but it gradually builds up into one of the best and genuinely emotionally affecting horrors in recent years.

“The actors are great and the story is really amazingly well thought out.”

A second agreed: “I thought the concept, writing and acting were all excellent. It’s one of those films that’s so tight and focused that I looked up whether it was based on a stage play.”

(It isn’t – although it is based on a story from writers Toby Venables and Felicity Evans, who penned the movie’s screenplay).

Rotten Tomatoes critics were also in agreement, giving a glowing consensus alongside their perfect score.

“Featuring genuine scares through every corridor, His House is a terrifying look at the specters of the refugee experience and a stunning feature debut for Remi Weekes,” it reads.

Netflix viewers praise ‘breathtaking’ crime miniseries they’re ‘binge watching in one afternoon’

Fans say the TV show gets ‘better and better’ with each episode

A binge-worthy crime series people are watching in ‘one afternoon’ has been praised as ‘gripping’ by viewers.

Better yet, it stars a ‘riveting’ Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated actress who puts in a ‘stellar’ performance throughout.

The streaming giant has a jam-packed catalogue of quality crime dramas – but with so many choices, some are often overlooked.

Released back in 2018, this ‘breathtaking’ miniseries might have slipped under your radar. It’s lead by Broadway and movie star Carey Mulligan, and makes for the ideal binge-watch.

Mulligan’s previous roles include Cassie in 2020’s Promising Young Woman, Daisy in The Great Gatsby alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, and Felicia in 2023’s Maestro opposite Bradley Cooper.

In this miniseries, though, she plays a determined detective who’s tasked with investigating the murder of a pizza delivery man.

Set in London, England (Mulligan is English, after all!), chaos ensues when Regal Pizza employee Abdullah Asif (Sam Otto) is gunned down by a masked shooter after making a delivery to Karen Mars (Doctor Who’s Billie Piper) – who happens to be the ex-wife of the Shadow Minister for Transport.

A newly-promoted detective inspector Kip Glaspie (Mulligan) is assigned to take on the case.

She soon uncovers a ‘tangled conspiracy involving drug dealers, smugglers and spies’, the series synopsis explains.

The TV show in question is called Collateral, and you can watch its trailer below:

While they share the same name, this series isn’t to be confused with the 2004 movie starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx!

Viewers have been quick to praise the ‘simply brilliant’ drama, taking to social media to share their thoughts.

“The only problem with binge watching a show as fabulous as Netflix thriller Collateral is that it’s all over in one wild afternoon,” one X user wrote.

“Stellar cast, gripping story, engaging cinematography… Four parts! One binge… Thumbs up from us,” a second praised.

“I’m loving Collateral on Netflix because I love watching Carey Mulligan be good at her job while casually smirking at things,” a third quipped.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, where fans awarded the series a pretty average 66 percent score and critics gave it 79 percent – one viewer wrote: “This series is simply brilliant.

“In fact, with each episode it gets better and better. Low-key but smart.

“The pace is breathtaking without being overwhelming. Honestly, this is the best of the best in my opinion.”

A second agreed: “A dark, intelligently written detective series. Great lead performance by Carey Mulligan.”

Collateral is streaming now on Netflix.
