The parents of a 13-year-old child who passed away earlier this month have paid tribute to their son after believing he died while ‘participating in a social media game’.
Nnamdi Glenn Ohaeri Jr. was found unresponsive in his bedroom in Murrieta, California, on February 3.
Although Nnamdi’s mom performed CPR, the teenager was sadly pronounced dead.
It’s unclear whether police are investigating the circumstances of Nnamdi’s death, but his parents now believe he could have taken part in a dangerous social media challenge.
UNILAD has contacted The Murrieta Police department for comment.

Nnamdi’s parents believe that he could have taken part in a game similar to the ‘Blackout Challenge’, which caused the deaths of several children in 2021.
Nnamdi’s father, Ohaeri Sr., said he had been open with his children about ‘influences’ but explained to KTLA that ‘we don’t talk about not following social media trends or playing social media games and maybe we need to’.
“I’m going through the Rolodex of guilt now like, ‘Did we check in more? Should I have not been as firm four years ago?’” He added.

A GoFundMe has now been set up for the family, explaining: “We want to honor the treasure that was the beloved Nnamdi Glenn Ohaeri Jr, ‘Deuce’.
“A vibrant, kind, loving, beautiful young man, a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a friend, a teammate, a bandmate, a leader, an athlete, who had a passion and incredible talent for football who meant so much to so many, and will be so very deeply missed.
“Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as we respect their space and privacy.
“All donations will go to the family for any expenses incurred by this tragedy.”

In an update from earlier this month, the family explained that Nnamdi’s death ‘does not seem real’.
“It has been 15 days since Deuce passed away, and this feeling still does not seem real. We never would have thought one of our children would be the face of a GoFundMe campaign and yet here we are,” the update read.
“On February 14th 2025 we had our son’s funeral. On February 16th 2025 we had our son’s celebration of life. The overwhelming support provided to us from our circle of Friends, our family members, and the entire community was and still is beautiful.
“Although we wish the circumstances were different, it has been comforting to receive support, messages of love, and the willingness from those closest to us and from those who don’t know us to provide us and unrelenting helping hand.”

A local councillor has confirmed the man was with a 24-year-old male when the accident happened over the Tagus River on the weekend.

Muñoz added that local authorities ‘have reiterated on many occasions [climbing the bridge] cannot be done under any circumstances.’

The deadly ‘chroming’ social media challenge has been explained after an 11-year-old boy died ‘instantly’ after taking part.
Tommie-lee Gracie Billington from Lancaster, England, took part in the dangerous social media trend and ultimately lost his life, his family say.
The young lad was at a pal’s house when the attempted stunt took place, according to his grandmother. He tragically died on March 2.
The police have since said the boy’s death is ‘unexplained’, though his family believe his tragic passing is due to Tommi-Lee’s attempt at the social media trend.

Tommie-lee’s grandmother Tina Burns told the Lancashire Post that the whole family is ‘devastated’.
“We need the cause, the reason to get out there in the media of what killed my grandson,” she told the newspaper.
“He died instantly after a sleepover at a friend’s house. The boys had tried the TikTok craze ‘chroming’.”
Tina continued: “Tommie-lee went into cardiac arrest immediately and died right there and then. The hospital did everything to try and bring him back but nothing worked. He was gone.”
TikTok has denied that the trend is specific to the video sharing platform.
Esra Haynes, 13, from Australia also lost her life after inhaling toxic chemicals last year.
The family are now hoping to rise awareness of the trend.
Her sister, Imogen, told 7News: “We definitely have a mission to raise awareness for kids and anyone that does it.
“We don’t want that to happen to anyone else. We don’t want another family to go through this, it’s absolutely horrible.”
So what exactly is ‘chroming’?

What is the ‘chroming challenge’?
The challenge, also known as huffing or sniffing, is essentially when someone inhales toxic chemicals.
Some of these toxic chemicals could be paint, solvent, aerosol cans, glue, cleaning products, or petrol.
The term chroming started to be used in Australia from the mid-Noughties, and by 2019 7News was reporting on a ‘chroming epidemic’ among young people in Brisbane.
It’s since spread around the world via social media.
What are the risks of chroming?
While offering an initial ‘high’, inhaling these substances can affect the central nervous system and slow down brain activity.
Symptoms include slurred speech, dizziness, and hallucinations.
While those taking part in the challenge might also suffer from nausea, vomiting, and disorientation.
And worst case scenario, inhaling the likes of paint and solvent can result in a heart attack or suffocation.
Permanent damage could also be inflicted on the brain, liver, and kidneys.
