Indulge in these irresistible Apple Dumplings, a recipe made famous by Trisha Yearwood. These apple dumplings are made with buttery crescent rolls wrapped around fresh apple wedges and baked in a decadent cinnamon-sugar sauce with a splash of lemon-lime soda. Served warm, they are the perfect dessert for fall or any occasion!
Ingredients:
• 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges
• 2 (8 oz) cans crescent roll dough
• 1 cup unsalted butter
• 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 (12 oz) can lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up)
Directions:
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and cut the apples into 8 wedges each.
3. Wrap the Apples: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up. Place the wrapped apples in the prepared baking dish.
4. Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and cinnamon until combined. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract.
5. Assemble the Dish: Pour the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture evenly over the apple dumplings. Then pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges of the dumplings (avoid pouring directly on top of them to keep them crisp).
6. Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
7. Serve: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
