Canada’s ‘nuclear weapon’ in Trump trade war could leave 3,000,000 users unable to access PornHub

Some have suggested that Canada’s ‘secret weapon’ of sorts when battling it out against US President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariffs is the popular adult website Pornhub, as it’s based in Montreal.

Since taking office for the second time, President Trump has moved aggressively towards Canada, seemingly in an effort to merge the neighboring nation into the United States as a ’51st state’.

Understandably the Canadian government and it’s citizens aren’t exactly too happy about this move, having pushed back significantly against Trump’s bizarre plans.

This has led to a trade war on both sides, which has involved the placing of tariffs in both directions alongside the breakdown of business relations that even affected key government member Elon Musk.

Tensions continue now with seemingly no end in sight, yet one comedian on Instagram has proposed an unlikely ‘nuclear weapon’ that Canada could employ to win the war outright, as reported by the New York Post.

In the now-viral video, Matt Puzhitsky proposes a conversation in the Canadian government where certain companies based in the country are proposed to be shut down in America.

Tim Hortons is immediately shot down, and Lululemon is a potential option – but one major business quickly emerges as the ideal option: Pornhub.

“You’re telling me we had a nuke this whole time and no one told me about it,” Puzhitsky’s character hilariously remarks, and he might be on to something here.

Launching nearly two decades ago in Montreal, Pornhub is not only the most popular adult video site around, but it’s also the 19th-most-visited website across the entire internet, so cutting access from what is most likely it’s biggest visitors would certainly make an impact.

It currently sits just a couple of places behind Netflix and LinkedIn, whereas it has more visitors than Outlook, Twitch, and the New York Times.

Whether Pornhub would agree to be part of an international trade war is still up in the air, but it wouldn’t be the first time that certain parts of the US have seen a blackout from adult content.

One report from the Independent outlines that more than a third of US states have some form of restrictions on adult content, including Pornhub, with areas like Texas, Utah, and Florida having blocked sites due to age verification laws put in place.

While nothing then would necessarily change in these specific states, many have argued that banning Pornhub exclusively wouldn’t affect the browsing habits of pornography-seeking individuals that much.

“It’s not like there are bazillions [of] options to jerk off elsewhere my god what a terrible tariff,” argues one user in response to the news, with another adding:

“Isn’t Pornhub already limited in a good portion of states that require ID verification? Also wouldn’t that just push people to use their competitor sites instead? It’s not like they hold a monopoly on the market.”

It remains true that Pornhub is the most popular adult site around, but competitor options are indeed close behind when looking at the rankings. XVIDEOS (29th), xHamster (31st), and XNXX (44th) are all on the heels of Pornhub, so it’s not clear that banning the Canadian site would have that much of a retaliatory effect as it would initially seem.

Pornhub’s year in review reveals disturbing differences between top categories searched by Gen Z and boomers

The popular categories differed from last year

A website in the adult film industry breaks down its viewership by generation.

It’s that time of year again – wrap season. The time when companies package up all the data they’ve been collecting from users over the year and show some curious results.

The most searched video games and characters of 2024 have been revealed as well as the most searched for movies and characters of 2024. Curious?

Pornhub’s 2024 year in review also shared insights into what people have been searching for by generation.

And there seems to be a major difference in the top categories searched by Gen Z and Boomers.

For starters, the average Pornhub user in 2024 was 38 years old which is just slightly older than last year’s average of 37.

Statisticians then broke down these categories further by age group.

“The 18-24 age group made up the biggest portion of traffic, with 27% of all traffic falling into that category,” the Pornhub’s press release explained. “Following closely behind was the 25-34 age group, which accounted for 24% of all traffic.”

It continued: “Together, the 18 to 35 group makes up over half of Pornhub’s visitors, even after giving up -2 percentage points in 2024 to the over 35 crowd.”

The data suggests that Gen Z have extremely different tastes compared to other generations.

“Our statisticians investigated the percentage difference in popularity compared to all the other age groups,” the press release added.

The research found that the 18-24 age group (covering Gen Z) are 392 percent more likely to view ‘vertical videos’, and have a particular interest in ‘hentai’.

As for boomers (55+), they’re said to be more interested ‘strap on’, ‘gangbang’ and ‘double penetration’.

Gen Y (25-34) are commonly searching for ‘FMM’, ‘tattooed woman’ and ‘parody’. Meanwhile, Gen X (35-54) tend to go for ‘role play’, ‘feet’ and ‘compilation’, according to data gathered by Pornhub.

“It is a fascinating point our statisticians discovered that Gen Z’s interests were higher around non-porn style porn than actual porn,” the press release added.

“For example, Music, SFW (safe for work), and Gaming all appear in their top relative categories. It seems they are looking to get more from their experience on Pornhub than watching purely sex videos.

“It’s almost like Gen Z is watching Pornhub for the podcasts, like Boomers read Playboy for the articles.”

And according to Push Square, PS5 and PS4 users drove most of the console traffic to Pornhub – with a small fraction of PS Vita users still holding on,

Pornhub’s year in review reveals shocking differences in search habits of US states

The US is once again the top country for traffic on Pornhub

Adult film website Pornhub reveals the difference in search habits across the United States.

We all loved a good wrap-up review at the end of the year to reflect on our most listened-to songs, thanks to Spotify wrapped or our most played video games.

Similarly, the adult film industry also has a wrap-up of the most-viewed categories for the year.

In the packed review, Pornhub divulged the most searched video games and characters of 2024 as well as the most searched for movies and characters.

The review also shared insights into the most common categories by generation, showing a major difference between Gen Z and Boomer searches.

Not surprisingly, the US is once again the top country for traffic on Pornhub. With over 300 million people, the country accounts for a huge chunk of the site’s visitors.

Here’s what they were searching for most this year.

The term ‘hentai’ took the top spot in 2024, climbing two spaces to make it the ‘most searched term in the US following the popularity of the Animated Arousal trend.’

Not far behind was ‘latina’ which also moved up two spots, pushing ‘milf’ down to third place.

Meanwhile, the search term ‘lesbian’ dropped five spots this year, dethroning the popular term for the first time since 2022.

When you zoom in on individual states, there seems to be a pattern. For example, some states seemed most interested in themselves as a category.

Nevada commonly searched for ‘vegas’ whilst Arizona searched specifically for ‘navajo’. The same happened in New York – home to the second largest number of Turkish residents in the US – where ‘turkish’ ruled the board. And New Jersey’s most popular search was ‘iranian,’ reflecting its large Iranian population.

Elsewhere, according to the Pornhub report: “California is still interested in moms again this year, showing a particular interest in ‘friends mom’ (last year it was ‘asian step mom’).”

Whereas Wisconsin made a bold switch from ‘swingers’ in 2023 to ‘pee’ in 2024 and Oregon swapped its popularly searched ‘nudist’ searches last year for ‘furry’ in 2024.

Over in Missouri, the term ‘grandma’ came out on top and Washington was all for ‘milking.’ And in New Hampshire, there was a surprising interest in ‘enema’ videos.

The report added: “Our statisticians also found searches related to the trends this year. Iowa’s interest in ‘work trip’ aligns with the Coworker Crushes trend.”

Finally, the social media trends of demure and mindful made their way into the porn categories. Demure Desires and Pornhub Wives are linked with Maryland’s interest in ‘girlfriend’ and New Mexico’s interest in ‘housewife.’

Major US state set to block Pornhub in January 2025

New age verification laws are shaking up the adult entertainment industry

The January blues are set to land in a big way for one U.S. state in 2025, with Pornhub due to banned over controversial new changes. No matter what you think about internet pornography, there’s no denying the popularity of Pornhub.

While Google is by far and away the most-visited website in the world, Pornhub is the most-visited adult website and currently sits as the 19th-most-visited website around the globe. When you realize it’s everyday sites like Facebook, Reddit, and ChatGPT ranking higher, it puts into context just how popular Pornhub is. Still, its traffic could be about to take a hit as it annexes the Sunshine State.

Pornhub is pulling the plug on Florida over new age verification laws.

On December 17, Pornhub users in Florida were greeted with a pop-up warning them they’ll lose access in 14 days. The statement reads: “Did you know that your government wants you to give your driver’s license before you can access PORNHUB?”

“As crazy as that sounds, it’s true. You’ll be required to prove you are 18 years or older such as by uploading your government ID for every adult content website you’d like to access.”

It comes after Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill in March 2024, requiring websites that are deemed to feature sexual content to include stringent age verification mechanisms. This was brought into law, known as HB 3.

Pornhub’s statement adds: “We don’t want minors accessing our site and think preventing that from happening is a good thing. But putting everybody’s privacy at risk won’t achieve that.”

Parent company Aylo has decided to block the site rather than comply to the new law. This means Florida joins Pornhub’s ban in 12 other states: Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

Anyone who tries to visit in those states (and Florida from Jan 1) will be greeted with, “403 – This state is not whitelisted.”

Speaking at a conference in Jacksonville, DeSantis told crowds: “You can have a kid in the house safe, seemingly, and then you have predators that can get right in there into your own home.

“You could be doing everything right but they know how to get and manipulate these different platforms.”

Pornhub’s defiance has been met with criticism from Rep. Chase Tremont, who told Florida Politics: “The fact that they’ve chosen to shut down instead of complying to ensure that children aren’t accessing their site tells us exactly who their real target audience is.”

Aylo has defended its decision, saying it has supported age verification for years but pointed to its compliance with new laws in Louisiana: “Since then, our traffic in Louisiana dropped approximately 80%.

“These people did not stop looking for porn. They just migrated to darker corners of the internet that don’t ask users to verify age, that don’t follow the law, that don’t take user safety seriously, and that often don’t even moderate content.”

Despite a trade group representing the adult entertainment industry filing a federal lawsuit against HB 3, those in Florida will soon have to get their rocks off somewhere else other than Pornhub.
