Elon Musk’s response to a petition that seeks to revoke his Canadian citizenship has shocked many, as it continues to fan the flames underneath a faltering relationship between the United States and its close neighbor.
Thanks to his mother being born in Regina, Elon Musk was able to swiftly pick up Canadian citizenship in 1989 after moving there from his native South Africa at the age of just seventeen.
It took him a further 13 years before he was able to claim citizenship within the United States – where he now calls home – and despite previously claiming to be ‘proudly half-Canadian’, Musk’s recent relationship with the country has been somewhat rocky.
One of US President Donald Trump’s biggest post-election pushes has been against the Canadian government, which he now seemingly considers to be a rival.

At the heart of it all is a conquest to ‘take over’ the country and claim it as a supposed ’51st state’, and tensions have been furthered by now-paused tariffs placed on goods from Canada to the United States.
While Elon Musk hasn’t been a leading figure in these rhetorical pushes, he has been caught in the crossfire after Ontario premier Doug Ford ‘ripped up’ a $100 million Starlink contract in response to the news.
Additionally, his keen support of Trump and involvement close to the president as head of the Department of Government Efficiency has led to major pushback from hundreds of thousands of Canadian citizens in the form of a petition.
‘Petition e-5353‘, proposed by NDP MP Charlie Angus, calls upon the prime minister to ‘revoke’ Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status due to his involvement in a foreign government that “is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.”
As of the time of writing the petition has garnered 296,383 signatures, and will remain open until June 20, 2025.
It might not prove to be successful in its execution, as a lawyer has revealed that Canada is unlikely to revoke citizenship that has been legally and fairly obtained – which Musk’s has – but that still hasn’t stopped the richest man in the world from throwing a retaliatory punch on social media, as he always likes to do.
“Canada is not a real country,” Musk posted in a now-deleted tweet in response to the petition, and that’s certainly riled up many who were already exactly his biggest fans.
“Good,” argues the top comment on a post on the r/canadian subreddit, “then you won’t mind not being a citizen anymore.”
Another adds: “We’re a real country. He’s not even a real engineer.”
What many have also wondered is what Musk’s aforementioned mother thinks about statements like these, as she is Saskatchewan born and bred. “Apparently he’s so tweaked that he thinks the country his mother was born in isn’t a country. How about she’s not human and neither is he?”
It’s doubtful that this will be the last we hear from either side of this conflict, so we won’t have to wait long until Musk comes out with another controversial claim.
The MAGA influencer who claims to have had Elon Musk’s baby made a serious plea to the billionaire in a now-deleted post.
Ashley St Clair alleges that she has given birth to the Tesla boss’ 13th child after making a post on Musk’s own social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The 26-year-old also said that Musk told her to keep the news a ‘secret forever’, which included keeping his name off the birth certificate.

In a post published on X on Friday (February 14), St Clair wrote: “Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father.
“I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”
She went on to say: “I was told to keep it secret. I was being asked to keep it a secret forever. I was completely isolated during my pregnancy. Every part of my career and everything I used to do I couldn’t do anymore. I was told not to tell anybody.”
Speaking about Musk, St Clair continued: “Musk was very funny. He was smart. He was very down to earth.”

Since Musk issued a one-word indirect response on the social media site, writing ‘whoa’, St Clair has now made a public plea to the world’s richest man.
In a series of now-deleted tweets, she wrote: “Elon, we have been trying to communicate for the past several days and you have not responded.
“When are you going to reply to us instead of publicly responding to smears from an individual who just posted photos of me in underwear at 15 years old?”
The response comes after St. Clair’s lawyer Brian Glicklich shared a statement saying that she and Musk had been privately working towards a custody agreement.
“Ashley & Elon have been privately working towards the creation of an agreement about raising their child for some time,” he wrote.
“It is disappointing that a tabloid reporter, who repeatedly ambushed Ashely and her family, made it impossible to complete that process confidentially.
“We are waiting for Elon to publicly acknowledge his parental role with Ashley, to end unwarranted speculation, and Ashley trusts that Elon intends to finish their agreement quickly, in the best interests of the wellbeing and security of the child they share.”

Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship has been called into question following a popular petition that calls to revoke it, as the richest man in the world has been at the heart of incendiary conversations surrounding America’s close neighbor.
Canada as a country was key to who Elon Musk is today, as it provided the foundation for his move to North America at just 17-years-old. As reported by CBC, Musk outlined: “I left South Africa by myself when I was 17 with just a backpack & suitcase of books. Worked on my Mom’s cousin’s farm in Saskatchewan & a lumber mill in Vancouver.”
This was before starting his first company, Zip2, with his brother Kimbal, and he has also previously claimed that he is “proudly half Canadian” in an April 2023 social media post.

His strong relationship with current US President Donald Trump appears to have changed this long-held admiration for the country though, as he’s played a key part in recent rhetoric that threatens to absolve Canada into America as the ’51st state’.
Musk’s own company Starlink has been affected by these tensions, as Ontario premier Doug Ford threatened to ‘rip up’ the C$100,000,000 ($68 million) contract with the SpaceX subsidiary following the announcement of US tariffs on Canada.
This has led to the creation of ‘Petition e-5353‘ by New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus, requesting that Musk’s Canadian citizenship is revoked. The petition details as follows:
“Elon Musk has engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada; he has used his wealth and power to influence elections; he has now become a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty; and the attempts of Elon Musk to attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed.
“We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status, and revoke his Canadian passport effective immediately.”
Musk gained Canadian citizenship in 1989 – 13 years prior to his US equivalent – yet this could begin to threaten it.
At the time of writing the petition has gained 283,301 signatures, and will continue to run until June 20, 2025. In a now-deleted post on X, Musk responded to news of the petition, writing: “Canada is not a real country.”
Unfortunately for those passionately attaching themselves to the petition, one key lawyer has outlined that the possibility of this being passed is highly unlikely, regardless of Musk’s toxicity towards the country.
Audrey Macklin, professor of law at the University of Toronto, outlines, as per CNN: “Canada does not revoke citizenship that is lawfully obtained. This means that there is actually no way of revoking Elon Musk’s Canadian citizen, unless he obtained it by fraud of misrepresentation.”
As this is not the case in Musk’s situation he’s likely to hold on to his Canadian half, although he might not be wearing it as proudly as he once was.
Some on the r/canadianpolitics subreddit have also agreed with this position, with one user stating:
“Hard pass. His mom was born in Regina, he came by his citizenship legitimately. If we take away his now, a right wing regime can take away yours tomorrow.”
Another sarcastically added: “Stripping someone of their citizenship for holding political views you disagree with? That’s not a slippery slope, at all.”
It certainly would open up a dangerous can of worms that the Canadian government likely won’t want to go anywhere near, but it does show that many Canadians are willing to express their frustration and anger at their fellow citizen’s recent actions.

It’s safe to say that Elon Musk isn’t exactly the most popular person in the world of astronauts right now, as he’s been widely criticized for his social media outbursts, leading one NASA captain to issue him with a challenge.
One of the big pushes from both Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump since the latter regained power is to bring back ‘stranded’ astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore from the International Space Station.
It has been well publicized that the pair have been ‘stuck’ in space since June 2024, as what was initially an eight-day expedition has spiraled over seven months and counting.
At the root of the issue was their Boeing Starliner spacecraft, as technical issues prevented them from taking it back once their short mission had reached its completion.

Instead, they’ve been waiting for the SpaceX Crew-10 mission arrive before their Crew-9 ship takes them back to Earth, as NASA mandates that anyone leaving the ISS must complete a handover process, but mechanical issues with that flight have unfortunately persisted.
Shortly after returning to office President Trump commanded Musk, CEO and founder of SpaceX, to ‘go get’ the pair, adding that they had been ‘virtually abandoned’ by the previous Biden administration.
Musk further asserted this belief in an interview on Fox News, outlining that he believes that Wilmore and Williams were “left up there for political reasons.”
This didn’t sit well with a number of current and former astronauts, who took to social media to push back against Musk’s claims. ESA astronaut Andreas Morgensen argued in response to Musk:
“What a lie. And from someone who complains about lack of honesty from the mainstream media.”
Musk then directly responded to this push back, calling Morgensen “full r*******” and an “idiot” while reasserting his original position. Morgensen then pointed out:
“You know as well as I do, that Butch and Suni are returning with Crew-9, as has been the plan since last September. Even now, you are not sending up a rescue ship to bring them home. They are returning on the Dragon capsule that has been on ISS since last September.”
Former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly then came to Morgensen’s defense, offering evidence of his expertise and adding that Musk’s ‘rhetoric’ is “beyond the pale but, sadly, not surprising.”
What was also not surprising is that Musk continued to bite back, claiming once more that Morgensen is an ‘idiot’ and also firing shots at Scott’s twin brother – fellow former NASA astronaut and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
Mark Kelly, as reported by Futurism, then hit Musk in a way that he’s seemingly found it difficult to respond to, offering a rather unexpected but painful challenge.
“Hey @ElonMusk,” Kelly began, “when you finally get the nerve to climb into a rocket ship, come talk to the three of us.”
He then continued throwing punches in additional posts, adding that “if Elon’s ready to go to space, I’m happy to go with him. I know where the space station is. In the meantime, he should stop trying to drag our astronauts into political fights.”
Despite being a keen space enthusiast and one of the most important individuals in the world of space travel, Musk has indeed never been into space – at least not in the capacity of the astronauts he’s fighting with online – and this point has clearly proven to be something that even he can’t spin in his own favor.

It seems that Elon Musk isn’t doing the argument that some people have more money than sense any favors. The world’s richest man has reaffirmed his offer to pay the owners of Wikipedia a cool $1 billion if they change its name to ‘D**kipedia’. Just think what we could do with $1 billion or what could be done if it was given to charity. In fact, Musk could give everyone on Earth $1 billion and still be far and away the richest man in the world.
Musk has something of a vendetta against Wikipedia, which recently reared its head again when the online encyclopedia updated the tech mogul’s page and referred to accusations that he performed a ‘Nazi gesture’ at President Trump’s inauguration.
Wasting no time in putting Wikipedia in his sights, Musk branded it ‘Wokepedia’ over DEI initiatives and urged people not to donate. Twisting the knife further, Musk has once again offered up $1 billion if Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales will rename it D**kipedia.
When user @Johnmc42069 asked Musk if the offer still stood on February 17, 2025, Musk was quick to confirm it.
Musk first suggested the idea in an October 2023 post where he said the offensive name was “in the interests of accuracy.” He took aim at the Wikimedia Foundation’s financial dealings and went on to question its funding.
The original post read: “Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?”
“It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know…”
If you’re keeping up with it all, Wales has never personally responded to Musk’s claims, although the official Wikipedia account posted saying: “Wikipedia is the only website in the top-ten most-visited global websites to be run by a nonprofit – and at a fraction of the budget and staffing.

Elon Musk and Wikipedia continue to spar with each other (Wikipedia)
“We are not funded by advertising, we don’t charge a subscription fee, and we don’t sell your data.”
Under Musk’s stipulations, Wikipedia would have to remain as D**kipedia for at least a year, but as Wales recently reminded the billionaire, Wikipedia is ‘not for sale’.
The jibes continue to be shared, with Musk’s latest reminder coming after Wikipedia came under fire for listing him on its ‘libertarian authoritarianism’ page alongside contemporary proponents Peter Thiel and Javier Milei.
The whole sordid saga was seemingly started from a single post that goes back to October 17, 2023. Back then, Wales criticized Musk for removing verified features from X as part of his Twitter rebrand and wrote: “Fast moving claims and counter claims, and @elonmusk has removed all the core features that made it even remotely possible to tell real journalists from fakes.”
Studies suggest that Wikipedia has a left-leaning bias, with critics also arguing that content can be relatively edited to reflect political agendas. There’s a sense of irony that Wikipedia and X are currently battling it out to be some of the most-visited sites on the internet. As of February 2025, X is the sixth most-visited website, while Wikipedia is in seventh.
Who knows, maybe renaming it D**kipedia for a year would shoot Musk in the foot and see Wikipedia overtake X.
